Community Services Program

Community Services Centre

This Centre gives ‘emergency relief’ assistance to individuals and families in need and who live in the areas assigned to our office.

  • Manager: Janice Smith (02) 9891 4526
  • The Centre is open 5 days a week
    • Monday 10.00am – 1.30pm
    • Tuesday 9.00am – 1.30pm
    • Wednesday 10.00am – 1.30pm
    • Thursday 9.00am – 1.30pm
    • Friday 9.00am – 11.00am

Our Community Services Centre has a volunteer reception team made up of members of our Corps fellowship. The receptionists greet clients as they arrive and serve tea/coffee/water to them as they wait to see a worker. The receptionists provide excellent support to the welfare workers.

Community Support Worker

This role provides support to the community, Corps and the Community Services Centre for general counselling and addiction counselling in particular. The worker will also refer clients when more specific, in depth, counselling is required.

The worker networks with local agencies and has good knowledge of rehabilitation programs.

  • Support Worker: Helen Drew (02) 9891 4526

Community Visitors Scheme

(Friends for older people)

This Scheme is part of the Federal Government’s initiatives to enhance the rights of older people living in residential Aged Care facilities.

A Community Visitor (volunteer) befriends a resident of an aged care facility who is considered to be lonely and who would benefit from having a special visitor.

The Visitor receives helpful training before commencing to ‘visit’ and then ongoing support from the Co-ordinator. The Visitor sets aside time at least once a fortnight to visit. This is a minimum requirement. The effort expended by a Community Visitor could help an older person in an aged care facility to enjoy life to its full potential.

If you would like to know more about the Scheme, or would be interested in becoming a visitor please make that phone call!

Co-ordinator: Leanne Coia 02 9635 6870

Community Care

(formerly known as ‘League of Mercy’)

This is an opportunity for Salvation Army representatives to visit hospitals, aged care facilities, and private homes showing and sharing God’s love with people who are facing health challenges.
