Testimony of Doreen Salt
Parramatta Corps is greatly
blessed to have a number of comrades
in their senior years. Doreen Salt
is a worthy representative of this
group. Doreen with her husband Derek
and children Nigel and Lynda
transferred from Petersham Corps in
1966. Doreen has been involved in
Sunday School, Songsters and is
still active in the Women’s Bible
Study Group, Home League and Corps
Community Services. Doreen also
maintains an active interest in
corps members through her
card/letter ministry.
Doreen has experienced personal
sadness in that some years ago both
her husband Derek and son Nigel were
Promoted to Glory after battling
cancer. However by the grace of God
Doreen maintains a bright positive
spirit and is an example to all.
Incidentally Doreen is well known
in Salvation Army circles in Sydney
because for many years Doreen
enjoyed the reputation of being one
of the Army’s leading vocal
soloists.
"I am so glad for the
strong foundation of being born
into a Christian home. Very
early I was taught of God’s love
for me, how to pray and to
remember He was there with me at
all times. I saw for myself love
and caring in action by the
example of wonderful parents. I
experienced the usual teenage
rebelliousness but finally made
my own decision to accept Jesu’s
sacrifice for me and wanting Him
as my own personal friend and
Saviour.
Living a Christian life
does not mean deliverance from
trouble-it means deliverance
in trouble. Through my
times of sorrow and trials I
have felt God’s strength,
comfort and help and these
experiences have helped me to
grow closer to Him as I depend
more on Him.
It’s great to know God
loves me and that His love is
unconditional and beyond
understanding. My desire is to
show others that I’m a child of
the King and that I’m trying to
live a life pleasing to God."
