Parramatta Personalities

Pam and AlisonThe words of John Oxenham in Song 826 of the Salvation Army Song Book remind us “In Christ there is no east or west…….but one great fellowship of love”

At Parramatta Corps Alison Wu has proved this truth for although she has only been in Australia for just over 12 months she met a good friend at Parramatta Corps, Pamela Freeman.  During the meetings Pamela sits with Alison and assists her to understand what is being said. Alison appreciates Pamela’s kindness and encouragement to keep practising her English.  Alison says she is grateful to God for finding Parramatta Corps and for her precious friend, Pamela.

Denise Harrison is a fifth generation Salvationist and has attended Parramatta Corps for the past 30 years. Denise has been involved in the many aspects of the life and ministry of the corps. Denise has enjoyed various roles in many sections including Ladies Evening Fellowship, Sunday School, Community Services, Welcome Team, Songsters, Tennis Group and Bible Studies.

Denise has the privilege of having her husband Brian, children Karen, Kerrie and Sean together with daughter in law Colleen and two lively grandsons all worshiping at Parramatta Citadel with her.  Denise has a most caring nature and is a “mum to everyone”.

John Godkin transferred to Parramatta Corps in 1958 and is no stranger to Army service. John has served at Parramatta Citadel as Corps Cadet Guardian, Band Secretary, YPSM, Songster Secretary, Corps Organising Secretary and Band Sergeant. John together with his wife Alayne have organised a weekly Friday night Bible Study group for over 20 years. John and Alayne have two sons, David who is the officer at Menai Corps, Sydney and Peter who is a cadet in the Visionaries Session at the International Training College London.

Nicola Stowe first came to Parramatta Corps as a 10 year old girl and joined the Sunbeam Brigade.  Although Nicky (as she prefers to be called) is vision impaired she maintains a bright spirit and a positive outlook on life. Nicky is in full time employment as a Braille Proof Reader of text books for non-government schools. Nicky has purchased her own apartment and lives by herself with her guide dog, Jarrod who is also a regular attendee at the Corps.

Adam is an accomplished pianist and assists in Sunday Meetings as required as well as God Squad and YP Singing Company. Adam moved with his family from Victoria to Parramatta in 1997 and enjoys being a member of the Youth Group.
